Naga AU
Setting: Fantasy
Summary: After numerous tragedies befall an orphaned and blind Arian, he’s forced out of his village for being nothing more than a nuisance; and after being abandoned too many times, he comes to believe he truly is worthless. In his aimless travel, he runs into a man deep in the mountain forest - whom he cannot see. For a short time Arian is questioned and he vaguely confides his troubles to this stranger, that all he ever wanted to do was be useful and make someone proud or happy, to be loved.
When the owner of the voice finally admits to being a naga - a creature notorious for devouring stray travelers - Arian instantly gives up, and actually begs to be eaten, so that he could at least be of use to someone before he dies.
The naga (Eren) is appalled by his behavior, and wastes no time sheltering the tiny human. Having a similar past himself in which he was alienated for the color of his scales that shine like a raven’s feathers (an ill omen to his kind), he can’t find it in him to abandon, much less harm Arian in his plight. He’s not ashamed in the slightest with how easily he declares his desire to help provide Arian the kind, warm home he so desperately deserves.
Slowly but surely, Arian becomes accustomed to living in a forest populated by “monsters” who are anything from magical animals to humanoid creatures like Eren. Many of them take a liking to Arian very quickly, even though most are extremely wary of humans. Creatures with interesting textures (feathers, scales, fur) love to lounge with him because Arian loves feeling different things due to his blindness, and hardly no one is too proud to admit they like being pet. The harpies especially love Arian helping them groom their feathers.
Arian enjoys exploring different areas of the forest and feeling each blade of grass to get the most detailed picture possible in his head - but this can often be dangerous, since he isn’t aware of every sharp rock or sudden drop, or even aggressive animals. So Eren very often lays his body out in the widest shape possible in places he deems safe enough, so Arian can explore without any worries.
Over time, Arian becomes fully capable of traveling short distances around his immediate home to do things like laundry or gather water, because he memorizes paths very quickly. Having grown up with minimal aid due to disinterested villagers, he grew to be extremely self sufficient in a lot of aspects. He regrets being blind mostly due to being treated like a nuisance in the village - but after being surrounded by people (or rather, creatures) who don’t look down on him for his disability, he thrives and no longer sees his blindness as something to hate. It’s just another part of him.
Sidenote: Eren’s jaw can unhinge, and his forked tongue can elongate drastically. He also has poison he can activate when he bites, that can simply numb an area, completely paralyze, or kill an elephant depending on the dosage.
